When using our logo you must ensure that you:

  • have permission to use the logo - see who can use the logo
  • use it exactly as shown and described in these guidelines
  • always use the coat of arms and University name together
  • never use the coat of arms on its own
  • never change any element of the logo
  • only use the authorised artwork files provided on this site
  • follow the guidance on size, clear space, legibility and alignment

This will ensure consistency and maintain the integrity of the brand's visual identity.

Artwork files

The Office of External Affairs and Communications provide authorised logo artwork files for design use. University staff can download these with their login details. Each of the logo variants shown on this page are available to download.

University of Cambridge full colour logo.

Our full colour and horizontal logo should always be your first option. This is called our primary logo. The University has used it consistently for over 450 years and it is protected by law.

Black and white logos

University of Cambridge white logo.

If needed, you can use black and white versions of our logo to provide a higher level of contrast against the background.

You should use these sparingly. The full colour, primary logo should always be your first choice.

You must always ensure that the logo is legible. It must be clearly recognisable and stand out against any background colours or busy images.

Small space solution

In exceptional circumstances, you can use a vertically stacked version of the logo when there are very tight space restrictions, such as social media profile icons.

Positioning the logo

When positioning the logo:

  • align it in the top-left corner
  • only align it centrally on video end frames or PowerPoint holding slides

Exclusion zone

You must ensure that the minimum amount of clear space around the logo is equal to the width of the coat of arms. This ensures that the logo stands out clearly.

You must ensure that the width of the logo is not smaller than 30 millimetres in print or 85 pixels online.
