Sir John Plumb, former Master of Christ's College and one of the leading British historians of the last century, died in the early hours of Sunday 21 October 2001.

Professor Elizabeth Anscombe, who held the chair of philosophy at the University of Cambridge between 1970 and 1986, died on 5 January 2001.
