Pre-eminent social anthropologist Professor Henrietta Moore will delve into this question and share her thoughts when she delivers the Founders’ Memorial Lecture at Girton College on Friday 27 February.

Professor Moore is the William Wyse Chair of Social Anthropology at the University of Cambridge and is a leading theorist of gender in social anthropology.

Her research includes a long-term research engagement with Africa where her research programme has focused on gender, livelihood strategies, social transformation and symbolic systems.

She is also Director of the Culture and Globalisation Programme at the London School of Economics Centre for the Study of Global Governance. Professor Moore is a Fellow of the British Academy and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.

The lecture, entitled ‘What is culture for? Some thoughts on hopes, desires and satisfactions’, will be held at 5.30pm in the Old Hall, Girton College. Doors open at 5pm and members of the University and others who are interested are all welcome to attend.
