A senior higher education development executive with considerable experience in major campaigns has been appointed by the University of Cambridge to lead its development and alumni relations programmes.

Alison’s is an excellent appointment and we look forward to welcoming her to Cambridge at this time of significant opportunity for the Collegiate University.

The Vice-Chancellor

Alison Traub is currently Campaign Director for the University of Virginia’s $3 billion campaign and Associate Vice-President for Development there.

She will join Cambridge on the back of the 800th Anniversary Campaign which was the first university fundraising drive outside the USA to raise more than £1 billion.

An international appointment reflecting the university’s formidable global reputation and performance, the Executive Director of Development and Alumni Relations will carry forward the philanthropic agenda to the next stage. This follows the recent decision by the University to increase substantially its investment in development and alumni relations, including making preparations with the Colleges for the next Collegiate Cambridge Campaign.

Reporting directly to the Vice-Chancellor, Traub will work closely with senior University and College academic and administrative leadership, staff and alumni.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sir Leszek Borysiewicz, said: “The need for philanthropic funding to sustain Cambridge’s position as one of the best universities in the world has never been greater.  To be a global leader in education and research requires Cambridge to continue to be a leader in philanthropy.  Alison’s is an excellent appointment and we look forward to welcoming her to Cambridge at this time of significant opportunity for the Collegiate University.”

Alison Traub said: “It is an honour to join the University at this exciting time as Cambridge charts a course for learning and discovery in the years to come.”

The Cambridge University Development and Alumni Relations Office has the responsibility for building lifelong relationships with the University’s alumni body as a whole, for raising major philanthropic gifts from alumni and non-alumni sources; and for communicating persuasively with all audiences to satisfy these objectives.

It works collaboratively with all members of collegiate Cambridge including the 31 colleges.

Alison Traub will take up her new role in June 2013
