Flowers at the Fitz

The Fitzwilliam Museum has gained a major new acquisition - Roelandt Savery's oil painting of a Still life with flowers in a glass berkemeyer with a lizard, frog and dragonfly on a ledge. The painting, which is on copper, is dated 1637 and is the last known painting by Savery. At this time in his career he had moved from Prague, where he had been Court Painter to Rudolf II, and was living in Utrecht.

Fitzwilliam trials new visitor guides

The latest technology will be on show at The Fitzwilliam Museum this summer in a three-week trial of visitor information systems. The Museum is offering information about its collections through two different systems: state-of-the-art digital audio guides and pioneering wireless computing technology. Visitors will be encouraged to try out both systems and pass comment on their respective merits.

Fitzwilliam wins lottery funding

The Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) has awarded a grant of £5.6 million towards the Fitzwilliam Museum's Courtyard Development. This building project is vital to the Museum, which receives over 250,000 visitors annually, yet has no dedicated education space, no reception or orientation spaces for large groups nor even a public lift.
