In an Open Cambridge first, visitors will be given the chance to learn about the football club's history and highlight its community initiatives and goals.

You’ll visit the club museum as well as hear a talk about the history of the club which started life as Abbey United way back in 1912. You'll then be taken on a tour of the stadium. During the tour, visitors will get the chance to see the hospitality lounges and changing rooms and to walk through the tunnel and play manager by sitting in the dugouts. You’ll visit the stands and find out some of the surprising history they hold. After this, take a visit to the brand-new megastore.

In October 2023, a new partnership between the university and the football club was announced with the shared ambition of working together to help the wider city and the community, supporters, and current and prospective students.

We’re delighted to be able to kick start this partnership as part of Open Cambridge 2024.

Alex Tunbridge, Chief Executive Officer at Cambridge United said: “We are pleased to be playing a part in Open Cambridge this year and further developing our strategic relationship with the University. The Club is steeped in an extensive amount of history and heritage and participating allows us to share this with a wide demographic of people from across the city.”

Zoe Smith, Open Cambridge Manager said: “We’re delighted to be working with Cambridge United to deliver this exciting event. It’s a first for us and a big step in the right direction for the club and university’s partnership. Be quick if you want to join us! This event is bound to be popular, and spaces are limited.”

Bookings will open at 10am on Monday 12 August. The full programme will be released the same day.

Open Cambridge will run from 6-15 September and is a celebration of our local history, heritage and culture. Over ten days, enjoy free events for all including guided walks, tours of college gardens and libraries, the chance to visit University spaces such as the farm and Mullard Radio Astronomy Observatory and talks and open spaces at local community organisations.

The full programme is available from Monday 12 August at 10am. Bookings open on the same day. For further information please visit the website here.
