The University of Cambridge's Fun Lab is returning again this year to the Big Weekend on Parker's Piece. Join us for hands-on activities from the Public Engagement team and the University Museums on Saturday 6 July from 12 noon to 5pm.

Get messy in the Fun Lab making and creating to celebrate the launch of Summer at the Museums.

Sponsored by ARM, this event is part of the Big Weekend organised by the Cambridge City Council.

Departments from across the University, the Medical Research Council and Napp Pharmaceuticals will come together to offer hands-on activities for all ages.

Last year’s Fun Lab certainly lived up to its name and the Public Engagement Team of the University and partner organisations were delighted to welcome so many visitors to their marquee.

We look forward to seeing you on Saturday 6 July!

Activities on offer for all ages:

Help us predict the future of physical activity: Find out from the MRC Epidemiology unit how physical activity has changed over 100 years. See how researchers use the latest science and technology to find out about how much we move and how this affects our health. Featuring graphs, games and jumping up and down!

Meet the beasts: from the Museum of Zoology. Match the skulls to the skeleton, build a   Giant Ground Sloth, explore the world of creepy crawlies, and make a glowing firefly to take home with you.

Hands-on fun: Enjoy science and crafts from Napp in the form of brain hats and paper chromatography!

Batak wall, wobble boards and all things sport: The University of Cambridge Physical Education Department will be promoting sport in the city. Test your reaction times on the Batak Wall and your balance on wobble boards.

Funky fruits: Put your taste buds to the test and guess what type of fruit you’re eating blindfolded! Fun ways to get your ‘five-a-day’ from the MRC Human Nutrition Research Unit. You can also choose what should go in a healthy lunch box and see if you can recognise our fruit  X-rays.

Make your own fossil: Come and make your own ‘fossil’ with an activity from the Sedgwick Museum and volunteers from the University’s Public Engagement Team.

Skull and skeleton snap: Match the skulls to the skeletons using real museum specimens from the University’s Museum of Zoology.

Under the sea: Be inspired by shells and more from under the sea. Make an underwater creature to take home with you.
