The former President of India, Dr Abdul Kalam, will address an invited audience of students, academics and practitioners at Judge Business School next Tuesday 9 June as a guest of the School’s Centre for India & Global Business.

Dr Kalam will provide an overview of the dramatic socio-economic and technological shifts occurring worldwide, the new leadership style required to navigate it and how the centre of geopolitical and economic gravity is irreversibly shifting from West to East.
 

He will explain why, in order to thrive in this turbulent world, corporations, as well as nations, need 'creative leaders'. They need a new breed of visionary and empathetic leaders who act less as commanders and more as coaches, less as managers and more as facilitators.
 

Dr Kalam will outline the key attributes of creative leadership that are critical for driving innovation and growth in the global knowledge economy.
 

He will discuss the importance of education in cultivating creative leaders in vast numbers in both developed and developed nations.
 

In particular, Dr Kalam will address the catalytic role of the youth in providing creative leadership in emerging economies like India.
 

Dr A P J Kalam served as President of India from 2002 to 2007.
 

Dr Kalam has played a major part in preparing a roadmap for transforming India from a developing into a developed nation.
 

As a scientist himself, he has made a great contribution to scientific advances and innovation in his country.
 

A world-renowned expert in aeronautical engineering and space technology, Dr Kalam’s teaching and research have led to more than 30 honorary doctorates and the highest civilian honours in India: the Padma Bhushan in 1981, the Padma Vibhushan in 1990, and the Bharat Ratna in 1997.
 

His many international awards include the Hoover Medal, America’s top engineering prize, and the King Charles II medal from the UK’s Royal Society.
 

Dr Kalam has written several best-selling books including India 2020 and Wings of Fire. India 2020 outlines Dr Kalam’s vision for transforming India into a developed nation.
He is a passionate believer that education and improved healthcare hold the key to India’s future.
