The Park Street venue is Britain’s oldest university theatre and has been the location for student drama in Cambridge since 1855.
Shakespeare’s epic Henry V will kick off the new season at the ADC Theatre as the Cambridge American Stage Tour return home to complete the last leg of their tour.
And the autumn season should have something for everyone with drama from the likes of Harold Pinter and Alan Ayckbourn rubbing shoulders with comic treats fresh from the Edinburgh Festival, comedy improvisation nights, and live music.
While the official reopening of the theatre does not take place until Monday, October 13, those snapping up a ticket to see Henry V or Footlights’ 2008 performance of Devils (also on Tuesday – at 11pm), will notice more than a few differences at the newly-revamped venue.
First and foremost for theatre-goers are brand new seats. Complaints in the past have led to the ADC installing completely new seating with better lines of sight for the audience.
Theatre manager James Baggeley said: “People who come to watch our shows should notice a big difference. We were keen to do something about the seating and they are now much more comfortable.”
Henry V, Shakespeare’s oft-quoted masterpiece, runs from Tuesday, October 7 to Saturday, October 11, with tickets from £6-9.
Meanwhile, Devils, the first late show of the year, also runs from Tuesday to Saturday with tickets priced between £4-6.
The ‘crackingly funny show’ will explore the silly and satirical in what is the Footlights’ 125th year. The appearance of Devils at the ADC marks the end of their acclaimed 2008 National Tour Show.
Tickets for both shows can by booked by visiting www.adctheatre.com or calling the box office on 01223 300085.
