Doctor Who monsters invade University for 2008 Science Festival

A horde of dastardly Doctor Who monsters, including Cybermen, Daleks and The Ood seized control of the 2008 Cambridge Science Festival this weekend.

Classic monsters from the television series were seen roaming around King’s College and the streets of Cambridge as part of a special Doctor Who exhibition for Science Saturday – the festival’s flagship event.

An estimated 15,000 people visited Cambridge to learn about everything from polar bears and climate change to backyard bio-diversity. University buildings and sites across the city welcomed visitors to a wide range of talks, exibitions and hands-on activities, nearly all of which were completely free.

Celebrity alumna Carol Vorderman joined the University’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Alison Richard, to officially open the event. The display of Doctor Who monsters was accompanied by a presentation by Dr Paul Parsons on “The Science of Doctor Who”, exploring some of the scientific ideas behind the popular show.
