University to offer one-day workshop on creating a contented life.

Attempting to balance the demands of work, family and self, leaves many of us feeling overwhelmed and discontent with our lives. To address this growing phenomenon, the University of Cambridge is offering a workshop which offers to teach practical skills for individuals wishing to improve their all-round well-being.

Professional Studies at the University has teamed up with Dr Nick Baylis, to offer a highly practical one-day workshop on Applying Positive Psychology and The Skills of Well-being.

Dr Baylis is an internationally recognized well-being scientist, therapist and trainer who is a pioneer in the field of Positive Psychology and its applications. He is perhaps most widely known in the British media as Dr FeelGood of The Times newspaper, where he wrote over 100 weekly columns on the science of happiness.

The workshop, which takes place on June 12, is designed to foster profound improvements in participants personal and professional lives. Dr Baylis, commenting on the workshop, said: "We can all benefit from some practical ideas about what principles, strategies, skills and experiences are most likely to help us thrive and flourish emotionally, intellectually, socially, and physically."

Faced with the increasing demands of 21st century life, where both our work and home lives can often suffer, this new workshop sets out to develop ones own effective life-strategies for thriving and flourishing in the face of a host of fast-changing challenges.

Those who will find it particularly valuable are teachers and parents; personnel professionals; coaches and mentors; healthcare professionals; individuals and couples at all stages of their lives; and professionals at all levels and in all arenas of the broader business world.

Sharon Collins, Director of Professional Studies, said: "The importance of a healthy work-life balance is sometimes harder to achieve than it sounds. However, with the expertise of Dr Nick Baylis, this workshop will inspire and benefit individuals from a wide range of backgrounds."

Dr Baylis will also be speaking at the Cambridge Science Festival. His lecture, entitled Debunking the Happiness Hype and Humbug, will be 18 March at the Babbage Lecture Theatre at 6pm. Dr Baylis will explain what really drives our everyday lives towards well-being.
