The University of Cambridge has been named the best University in the UK for the tenth year in a row in the Sunday Times Good University Guide, published today.

In addition, Cambridge has this year been named Sunday Times University of The Year.

The Guide's Editor, Alastair McCall explained: “Although we don't make the award on the basis of the league table, you cannot escape the fact that Cambridge has finished top for all of the past 10 years. As our methodology has changed with first dropout rates, then our head teachers' survey and peer assessment exercise, and now student satisfaction being incorporated, Cambridge has remained in situ at the top.

“The University has an outstanding record for teaching quality with more subjects rated excellent than any other university.

“It has the best research profile - in terms of quality and quantity as measured in the last Research Assessment Exercise.

“It has been rated top by Britain's leading head teachers and second by academics in the two exclusive Sunday Times surveys prepared for the University Guide.

“The University has the highest entry standards (526 Ucas points from A-level bearing students), low levels of graduate unemployment, high levels of students progressing to well-paid graduate level jobs and a low dropout rate.

“The University is making huge efforts to diversify the intake which are bearing fruit with admissions from state schools. This commitment is backed up by the decision to extend its bursary scheme in line with the new government thresholds for grant qualification.

“And finally it is running the £1 billion 800th Anniversary Appeal to help endow the university for the future - the most far-reaching appeal of its kind currently running in the UK.”
