Excitement is growing ahead of the Lehman Brothers Varsity Match between Cambridge and Oxford at Twickenham next week.

A set of eye-catching posters advertising the annual contest have appeared, highlighting the 125-year rivalry on the rugby pitch between the two universities.

Created by London advertising agency Lowe on behalf of the Rugby Football Union, they feature scoreboards on which are recorded different ‘scores’ between the two institutions.

From the number of Nobel Prize winners (Cambridge 81 to Oxford’s 47) and Poet Laureates (7 – 9) to Prime Ministers (14 – 26) and heads on postage stamps (11 – 6) the adverts have been appearing in national press in the weeks leading up to the game and will be shown on the giant electronic scoreboards at Twickenham on the day.

Cambridge Captain John Blaikie has announced a strong team to contest the match. The side contains former Wasps star Jon Ufton and 7 other members of last year’s victorious Blues team.

A memorable contest is anticipated.

The match is exclusively sponsored by the global investment bank, Lehman Brothers.
