It's Your Turn - Open Exhibition at Kettle's Yard

This July, Kettle's Yard is holding an exhibition with a difference: to celebrate the millennium, 1000 people from the Cambridge area, aged between 0 and 100, were invited to paint a picture, make a collage, or take a photograph for an open show at the gallery.

One of the works on display at the exhibition is Paint, by Nina Malmgren, aged 2.

Other junior contributors include 7 month-old Charlotte Benton; while 100 year-old May Woolfenden is exhibiting beaded embroidery.

The wide range of other submissions on show include an eye peering from an elbow, and a child's dress tailored from the pages of a book on etiquette.

Contributors were asked to convey their experience and life at the turn of the millennium, both in images and in writing, in order to gain new insight on the way that they view art and how they perceive Cambridge. This has generated an exciting exhibition which reflects the views, feelings, comments and ideas of the entire Cambridge community.

The exhibition runs throughout 1-30 July. Prizes, including over £1000 worth of tokens presented by Heffers Bookshops, will be awarded to the winners of each age category by the mayor on Sunday 23 July at midday.

Throughout the show there will be telescopes, binoculars, periscopes, magnifying glasses and kaleidoscopes in the gallery, to encourage visitors to view the world in different ways.

There will also be materials available in the education room so that visitors can create their own works of art and contribute to the exhibition. Visitors will be able to write, explore computer-aided design, or use a range of art materials, all free of charge.
