Today marks the start of the University of Cambridge Alumni Weekend.

Back for its 14th year, it provides the opportunity for graduates to revisit Cambridge and consider the latest developments in the University.

Each year alumni and their guests are welcomed back from all over the globe to take part in the three-day programme of departmental and institutional tours; lectures; social and sporting events.

University staff members are welcome to attend any of the more than 90 events taking place, including the screening of Hitchcock's classic 'The Lady Vanishes' at the Arts Picturehouse - introduced by Corin Redgrave, the Instrumental Award Holders Concert or the Rowing Regatta.

This year's theme is the hopes raised and threats posed by science. Highlights include:

  • Professor Sir Christopher Frayling's lecture 'The Scarecrow's Brain;
  • The Images of Scientists in the Movies', an Opening Reception in the courtyard of the newly-refurbished Fitzwilliam Museum;
  • A special session of Question Time with panellists Professor Sir Martin Rees, Baroness Onora O'Neill, Professor Sir David King and Professor Steven Rose, which will be chaired by the BBC's Edward Stourton.

The full programme of events and ticket prices and availability are available on the website and further details can be obtained from the Development Office on Tel: 44 (0)1223 332288 or by emailing alumni@foundation.cam.ac.uk
