Cambridge Admissions Office is inviting current undergraduate students to send in photos they’ve taken of Cambridge that give a candid student’s eye view of the university.

It could be an image of your friends enjoying themselves, an undiscovered corner of your college or a favourite view taken from a surprising angle. It might even be a hilarious moment from a field trip or an unlikely take on an aspect of your subject. Or it could be something quite different!

This is a chance for undergraduates to show prospective students the reality and diversity of student life. Classic images of historic Cambridge – courtyards, chapels and cobbled streets – tell only a fraction of the rich and varied story for those who study here.

The best student pictures will appear on the undergraduate admissions website and may also be used in the University prospectus. The well-known photographer and author Ben Schott, creator of Schott’s Miscellanies, will help select the winning entries.

Schott studied Social and Political Sciences at Gonville and Caius College in the mid-1990s and cut his creative teeth as a photographer for Varsity. His quirky Miscellany series developed from an idea for handmade Christmas cards sent to friends.

There are three categories in the student photo competition: First Impressions – pictures taken in your first year - Fresh Impressions - pictures taken in your second year - and Lasting Impressions - pictures taken in your third or later years.

Entries must be submitted by email to photocomp@cao.cam.ac.uk by 11 December 2009. There is no limit to the number of entries but each one must be accompanied by a submission form. For further information about the competition, the judging panel, prizes and how to enter, see www.cam.ac.uk/admissions/undergraduate/photocomp/
