While the headlines are dominated by the Boat Race defeat for Cambridge in challenging conditions, the Goldie v Isis Second Boat men’s race was won by Cambridge by more than four lengths.
There was victory in the Varsity Football Match for Cambridge for the first time in five years, winning 1-0 thanks to a 77th minute goal by Richard Payne. The match was played in front of more than 2,000 supporters at Craven Cottage on the Middlesex bank of the Thames, just hours before the start of the main Boat Race.
At Henley on Saturday on a day of very close and competitive racing and a fast flowing river with strong tail winds, the Women’s first and second boats lost to Oxford, as did the men’s Lightweight First and Second crews, but the Women’s Lightweight rowers won by a canvas in an extremely exciting contest.
