Loftus Road is the venue for this year's Varsity Football Match this Saturday.

The Queens Park Rangers FC stadium in West London will play host to the Cambridge and Oxford Teams as the latter try to avenge last year's one-nil defeat at Craven Cottage.

Looking back over the season CUAFC President Dr John Little predicts a Light Blues victory: “We had a slow start in Michaelmas Term, with two losses and two draws in the BUSA Championship but several good wins against representative sides like the AFA.

“We have had a much better set of results in Lent Term with three wins out of three in BUSA but bad weather meant that we couldn't complete our fixtures in time and thus missed out on the knockout rounds.

“Overall the team is playing well and, although the underdogs - Oxford did win their BUSA group and reach the quarter-final of the BUSA Shield - I am quietly confident!”

The game has a 2.30pm kick-off. Tickets will be available at the ground on the day priced £8. For travel details please see the link above right.

Guests in the crowd will include former England Manager Graham Taylor and Vice-Chairman of the Football Association Barry Bright. Last December Barry Bright presented CUAFC with an illuminated scroll at a special commemorative lunch to mark 150 years since the formation of the Club, making it the oldest officially recorded club in the world.

A close-fought game is predicted and, if the scores are level after extra time, there will be the first ever penalty shoot-out in a first-team football Varsity Match.

The Women Blues lost 4-3 on penalties to Oxford this year after drawing 1-1 after extra time. The Men's second team, The Falcons, were 1-1 at full time, 2-2 after extra time and then lost 8-7 on penalties.
