Families will have the chance to see the museums on their doorstep in a different light this half term at a special free twilight opening event on Thursday 15 February from 4.00pm – 7.30pm .

Follow in the footsteps of Ben Stiller, the good-hearted museum security guard Larry Daley in the film Night at the Museum, and explore six of the university's museums after dark. There will be torchlight trails and special activities although the exhibits probably won't be coming to life as they do in the film!

Visitors to the Sedgwick Museum are invited to bring their torches along and discover what the dinosaurs get up to after sundown. Who knows what you will glimpse in the shadows?

Five other University of Cambridge museums will be participating in this special after-hours opening:

The Museum of Zoology will have a special twilight treasure trail to discover owls, hawkmoths, killer whales, ocelots and more.

At the Museum of Classical Archaeology the theme will be ‘Love and War' with a special trail and short on-the-spot gallery talks.

Experience the dark of a polar winter at the Scott Polar Research Institute Museum, with museum trails and wintry tales of exploration.

Bring your torch along to the Whipple Museum and follow the trail to discover scientific instruments used at night.

Visitors can also discover treasures from around the world and make shadow puppets at the Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology.

Julie McArthur, Events Officer at the Zoology Museum said, “The skeletons, stuffed animals and statues in the galleries all look a little bit different in the half light when we lock up. We want to share this unique experience with our visitors and have some fun at the same time!.”
