One of China’s foremost academics will visit the University next week to speak on the current state of the Chinese economy.
Professor Ji Baocheng has been President of Renmin University in Beijing since 2000 having joined its Business School faculty originally in 1981.
He is regarded as a leading member of the Chinese Higher Education sector and his work, both as an academic – he has published or edited 23 books on commodity markets, trade and transitional economies – and as a university administrator has been recognised in China and internationally.
He has played a leading role in reforming and modernising the Chinese tertiary education system, is a member of the Tenth National People’s Congress and the Academic Degree Committee of the State Council and is a director of the Education Divisions of the Ministries of Commerce, Domestic Trade and Education.
Renmin University, formerly the People’s University of China, is commonly considered as one of the top universities in China, with a distinct focus on humanities and social sciences. Renmin University is particularly known for its strength in law, economics, and journalism.
Professor Ji’s lecture, entitled “China Approach, China Model and China’s Economic Recovery”, will discuss what lies behind China’s high speed of economic growth over the last 30 years. He will explore why China is among the first countries to recover from the global economic crisis and discuss the implications the ‘China Model’ has for the world economy.
The lecture will take place at 2.30pm on Friday 25 September in the Gordon Cameron Lecture Theatre in the Wilson Court Conference Centre at Fitzwilliam College, Storey’s Way, Cambridge. All welcome but space is limited. Registration from 2pm.
The lecture will be given in Chinese with simultaneous English translation available.
It is co-hosted by the University and the Cambridge International Land Institute which is based at Fitzwilliam. CILI offers international executive training programmes in the fields of real estate management and investment.
