Cranes, bitterns and other birds will be on show in a photographic exhibition from one of Britain's leading wildlife photographers at the University's Zoology Museum.

The Wild East exhibition presents photographs taken by Chris Gomersall, a freelance wildlife photographer of international standing and staff photographer for the RSPB for 14 years.

His images are concerned with showing wildlife at home in its natural habitat, with an emphasis on ambient light and sensitive composition. The photographs, which are all for sale, are mostly of wildlife in Cambridgeshire and Norfolk. They have been taken over a number of years and assembled for this exhibition.

Gomersall has an educational background in zoology, plant biology and experience in nature reserve wardening, including field research. He endeavours to create photographs which will be effective in promoting conservation and diversity of wildlife.

In 2001 he published a major book Photographing Wild Birds. More recently, he co-authored a DVD on wildlife photography Go Wild with your Camera and was chief photographer and art editor for the monumental Birds Britannica, a comprehensive, species-by-species study of all Britain's birds.

‘Wild East' by Chris Gomersall is being held at the Museum of Zoology in Downing Street, Cambridge, from 7 February until 9 April. The museum is open Monday to Friday 10.00 to 4.45 and admission is free.

The museum and exhibition will also be open on Saturday 15 March for the Cambridge Science Festival and on Easter Monday 24 March.

Those seeking more information on the exhibition should contact Julie McArthur at the Museum of Zoology on 01223 336650.
