There will be a one-day meeting, 'Infectious Disease Dynamics', at the University of Cambridge on October 26.
Topics covered will include the evolution of influenza viruses and preparing for human cases of avian influenza.
The meeting will be launched by Dr James Wood, head of the Cambridge Infectious Diseases Consortium. Other speakers include Dr Derek Smith (Department of Zoology), who will talk on the evolution of influenza, and Dr Sam Bracebridge (Institute of Public Health), who will talk about necessary preparations for human cases of avian influenza.
The meeting is sponsored and supported by the Cambridge Infectious Disease Consortium (CIDC), Cambridge Computational Biology Institute (CCBI) and Cambridge University Research Exchange (CURE) and will be held in Emmanuel College, Cambridge.
The meeting will present an overview of epidemiological research in the Cambridge area focusing on influenza, salmonella and tuberculosis as specific exemplars of human and veterinary infectious diseases. Genomic approaches to population studies and epidemiology, as well as pandemic preparedness in the Eastern region, will also be discussed. This meeting will be of interest to researchers in human and animal healthcare as well as genetics, population studies and pathogenicity.
The aim of the workshop is to increase awareness of current research and techniques, improve communication and promote collaborations across the Cambridge area.
Places are available for free for academic researchers who register before October 21.
