The Cambridge Open Days are taking place today and tomorrow (July 7 and 8) to enable prospective applicants and their parents/carers to find out about life at the University of Cambridge and its Colleges.

Around 5,000 visitors are expected to attend over the two days, which will feature a range of talks, tours and question-and-answer sessions. Information will be available on the courses offered at the University of Cambridge, the application process, interviews, student finance and the new Cambridge Bursary Scheme.

Current undergraduates and University staff will be available to answer any questions or queries and there are also sessions for parents/carers, as well as information on the support offered for those with disabilities.

The Cambridge Open Days are aimed at anyone who is considering applying to Cambridge for entry in October 2006 or deferred entry in 2007, especially those who have not chosen their specific course and/or College yet.

The academic departments of the University will be running displays and events on one or both days so that prospective students can gain more information regarding the courses on offer.

All 29 undergraduate Colleges will be open at specific times over the course of the two days to allow visitors to learn more about University life in Cambridge. In addition, several Cambridge Colleges will be holding their own Open Days although prior booking is necessary for these events.

Janet Graham, Head of the Cambridge Admissions Office, which has organised the Open Days, said: “The Cambridge Open Days provide an excellent opportunity for prospective applicants to find out more about the University, the courses and College life. The Open Days are informal and we really encourage students to ask any questions they might have.”

Booking for the Cambridge Open Days is not necessary, but visitors should check the up-to-date programme on the website in advance. Anyone attending the event is advised to use one of Cambridge’s several Park-and-Ride systems or use another form of public transport.
