Physics and engineering students keen on developing their ideas in a business setting can now apply for places on an innovative entrepreneur programme.

The Cambridge Integrated Knowledge Centre has given £10,500 to the Centre for Entrepreneurial Learning to fund places on its Ignite programme. The week-long course will run in July and is also open to selected industrial partners.

Participants have the chance to glean advice and support from leading entrepreneurs who have already made their mark. The aim is to give them the tools, contacts and confidence they need to develop their own business projects or ventures and make the leap to commercial success.

The Cambridge Integrated Knowledge Centre (CIKC) was set up to develop and exploit new technology based on macro-molecular materials systems. The Centre draws on research in the Department of Engineering and the Cavendish Laboratory and has links with a number of other departments at the University.

“This is a great opportunity for us to help foster innovation and entrepreneurship at the University of Cambridge,” Yupar Myint, programme manager at the Centre for Entrepreneurial Learning, said.

“Their aim, to enable and accelerate the commercialisation of new technology by building appropriate business skills, ties in perfectly with our Ignite programme. Their support is a significant bonus and will ensure that we get a high quality of delegates and technology ideas. We hope this is a relationship that we can continue developing in the future for the benefit of the Cambridge community and beyond.”

Ignite will run from 8 to 14 July at the Judge Business School in Cambridge. Further information can be found at the Centre for Entrepreneurial Learning website by clicking on the link to the right of this page.

Any businesses interested in finding out more about the Ignite programme should contact Yupar Myint on 01223 766900. It is advisable to apply soon as the deadline for completed applications is May 28.
