The Choir of Clare College is to perform the London Premiere of Ex Maria Virgine, a new piece by the renowned British Composer Sir John Tavener, in a concert of advent music this Wednesday (January 21st) in London.
The Choir of Clare College is to perform the London Premiere of Ex Maria Virgine, a new piece by the renowned British Composer Sir John Tavener, in a concert of advent music this Wednesday (January 21st) in London.
The piece was commissioned by Clare College Choir and has been described as a “very exciting new work, in which the composer explores many new and stimulating ideas.” Mr Timothy Brown, Director of Music at Clare College said: “The choir has responded to the work with great enthusiasm, dazzling spirit and energy, which is summed up in their masterful performance.”
The Choir performed the piece live on BBC Radio 3’s In Tune programme where it was warmly received. The piece has also had excellent reviews, which praised the “alert” and “sympathetic” performance
The performance will be conducted by Mr Brown and will be accompanied by Simon Thomas Jacobs, Clare College’s Senior Organ Scholar. Timothy brown is not only Director of Music at Clare College but also Director of Studies in Music at both Clare and Pembroke Colleges.
The composer Sir John Tavener was knighted in 2000 for his services to music. He is also a direct descendent of the sixteenth century composer John Taverner who is regarded by many as the most important composer of his era.
