His Excellency Yoshiji Nogami, the Japanese Ambassador to the UK, will visit Clare Hall, Cambridge, later this month as the college continues a series of internationally-themed celebrations marking its 40th anniversary.
Mr Nogami will be giving a talk on 23 September about Japanese Diplomacy, focusing on Japan’s relationship with the Middle East and East Asia, as well as Anglo-Japanese relations. The event, at 6pm in the college’s main Dining Hall, is free and open to all.
Another seminar focusing on Japanese business will take place at the college on 27 September.
Japan has become an increasingly attractive venue for Cambridge entrepreneurs and businesses seeking to set up operations abroad. The seminar has been organised by the Japanese External Trade Organisation (JETRO) and will examine the East Asian country’s current business climate and economic environment.
The keynote speaker will be Hiroshi Tsukamoto, the President of JETRO and there will be a special lecture given by Naoaki Okabe, the senior executive officer and editorial page editor of Nihon Keizai Shimbun, Japan’s biggest business daily. Both will be available for question-and-answer sessions.
Places for the seminar are limited and will be granted on a first come, first served basis. To secure a place, please contact alumni@clarehall.cam.ac.uk
Clare Hall is a graduate college that welcomes Visiting Fellows and graduate students from all over the world. At the moment it has students from 43 different countries on its roll. This year the college is celebrating its 40th anniversary with a series of internationally-themed programmes. Japanese, Korean and Spanish festivals have already taken place and there will be a week of German-themed events in October, followed by an Italian week in November.
College President Ekhard Salje said he was delighted to have the opportunity to welcome Mr Nogami again to Clare Hall. “Clare Hall values highly its growing number of partnerships with Japanese universities, government institutions and companies. We are delighted to host these important events.”
