The President of Wolfson College, Gordon Johnson, announced the death of one of its Founding Fellows in March 2007.

Jack King (Emmanuel 1948) served Wolfson successively as Secretary of the Trustees (1968-77), Bursar (1968-79), Vice-President (1984-88), Director of the Wolfson Course and Programme (1979-95). He was elected an Honorary Fellow in 1995.

He served in numerous capacities in the University, not least as Senior Proctor (1991-92). Outside Cambridge, his public service, particularly for the police, was recognised by the award of MBE in the New Year's Honours list 2002.

Mr King's funeral was on 10 March at St Mark's Church, Barton Road, Newnham, followed by a gathering in the Combination Room of Wolfson College.
