Celebrating the Millennium means looking to the past as well as the future. The History Faculty are marking the Millennium with a series of special lectures, The Millennium As History, beginning this Saturday, 9 October.
Professor Tim Blanning, who regularly lectures undergraduates on the relationship between Richard Wagner's music and the dynamics of modern German history, will be looking at Culture. Professor Jonathan Riley-Smith, an expert on the Crusades, will be talking about Religious Authority. Future lectures will include topics such as population and globalization.
Professor Jonathan Riley-Smith will deliver the second lecture of the series on Religious Authority.
The lectures will take place at 10:00 am at Lady Mitchell Hall on the Sidgwick Site and will be followed by a discussion chaired by Professor Christopher Andrew. They are open to everybody.
The lectures are only part of a series of events open to the public and taking place at the University to celebrate the Millennium.
