The opportunity to win training, guidance and funding from one of the world's leading global companies is on offer to students in their second year of study.

The Goldman Sachs Global Leaders Program, which last year awarded two Cambridge students with places on the prestigious scheme, is seeking people for its 2008 in-take.

The Program is funded by The Goldman Sachs Foundation, a charitable arm of the international investment and banking company, and is administered by the Institute of International Education. The scheme identifies students who demonstrate academic excellence and leadership potential, providing them with unique opportunities for leadership development.

Each year 150 students are selected from candidates at more than 90 of the world's top colleges and universities. Each student is awarded US$3,000, and given the title of Goldman Sachs Global Leader.

Through a process of interviews 75 students are then selected to attend the annual Global Leadership Institute in New York where they participate in leadership training and seminars on international issues.

With the help of the program's Social Entrepreneurship Fund participants have gone on to develop a school in rural India, a therapy programme for Aids affected children in Namibia and a malaria prevention campaign in Nigeria.

This year two Cambridge students were honoured with places on the Global Leaders scheme for 2007. Temi Olatunde and Samuel Cohen were selected from candidates in 19 countries.

Samuel is pursuing a Natural Sciences degree at Trinity College specialising in Physics and Temi, who has a strong interest in global inequality and corporate responsibility, is studying Economics at Christ's College.

Temi said: “It was an unforgettable experience. I found the Global Leaders Programme, and in particular the Leadership Institute in New York, an invaluable opportunity to learn first hand from world class leaders in the private and public sector”

The Foundation aims to promote excellence in education and to improve achievement of young people worldwide. It does this through a combination of partnerships, grants, loans, and the deployment of professional talent from Goldman Sachs.

The application deadline date is 14 January 2008. Any student in their second year of study and interested in applying should contact David Ainscough at the Careers Service at daa21@cam.ac.uk.
