Clare Hall is continuing its internationally-themed 40th Anniversary celebrations with a series of Italian events.

The week-long programme begins on November 16th and the highlight will be a visit by the Italian Ambassador, His Excellency Giancarlo Aragona (pictured), who will give a lecture on Italian diplomacy and trans-Atlantic relations. The talk will take place on Monday, November 20, at 6pm in the Richard Eden Room at Clare Hall and will be followed by a reception at 7pm.

The Italian event includes two classical concerts. The Aron Quartet of Vienna will perform a selection of pieces by Italian composers on Friday November 17. The Duo Leda, featuring Emma Abbate on piano and soprano Elena Bresciani, will give a repertoire of songs and arias in the college dining room on November 18.

Dr Daniela Corda, Director of Research at the Intitute Mario Negri, will give a lecture on November 21 on “How toxins help us to understand cell function”. Archaeology will also feature through a lecture by Dr Simon Stoddart, from the University of Cambridge’s Department of Archaeology, entitled “The Etruscan Landscape” on November 22.

In addition there will be chances to sample a taste of Italy, at a gastronomic tasting session on November 18 and a formal dinner on November 22. The Italian film 'Mai Piu Come Prima' will be screened on November 19, introduced by one of the starring actors, Marco Gambino.

Clare Hall is a postgraduate college and prides itself on welcoming scholars from all over the world. A series of programmes have been held over the course of 2006 to mark its 40th anniversary, each based on a different country’s culture and traditions
