This week Cambridge Overseas Trust and Cambridge Commonwealth Trust held their annual reception for first year scholars in the impressive surroundings of the Fitzwilliam Museum.
The reception was attended by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Alison Richard and many other senior officers of the University, Departments and Colleges who joined around 600 international graduate and undergraduate students. The event was also attended by Trustees, staff and funding partners of the Trusts.
The reception is for students in their first year of study at the University of Cambridge and is an opportunity for them to share their experiences and to help them meet scholars and fellow students from their homelands and other countries. The event is also a chance to introduce many first-time visitors to the expansive collections housed within the Fitzwilliam Museum.
The Cambridge Commonwealth Trust and Cambridge Overseas Trust give financial support to international students from many countries and in all disciplines. The Cambridge Trusts currently support over 2,800 students who are in residence at the University of Cambridge and gratefully acknowledge the generous help they have received from their many donors and collaborators.
Both the Cambridge Commonwealth Trust and Cambridge Overseas Trust were set up in 1982 under the Chairmanship of HRH The Prince of Wales to provide financial assistance for outstanding students from overseas who, without help, would be unable to take up their places at Cambridge. Since 1982, the Cambridge Commonwealth Trust has brought 7,727 students from 68 countries to Cambridge and the Cambridge Overseas Trust has brought 5,724 students from 133 countries.
