Crew Announcement

Cambridge outweighed Oxford at today’s Crew Announcement and Weigh-In for the 158th Xchanging Boat Race, with the Light Blues weighing in significantly heavier by an average of 7.9kg per man than their Dark Blue rivals.

The average weight for the Cambridge crew was 96.3kg and a total weight of 770.4kg excluding the cox. Oxford weighed in with an average weight of 88.4kg and a total weight of 707kg.

The heaviest oarsman in this year’s Race will also be in the Cambridge crew. American Steve Dudek – rowing in his first Boat Race having spent the last four years competing for the University of Wisconsin – weighed in at 109.6kg.

Oxford’s British bowman, Alex Woods, is the lightest crew member on either side, tipping the scales at a mere 77.8kg.

The two coxswains Zoe de Toledo and Ed Bosson weighed in at 49.6kg and 55.6kg respectively. Zoe will have to carry additional weight in the boat on Race day to reach the minimum requirement for coxswains of 55kg.

The Race, which is sponsored by Xchanging - the international business processing company - takes place at 14:15 on Saturday 7 April on the River Thames between Putney and Mortlake. It will be broadcast live on BBC One, BBC One HD, BBC America and BBC World News, as well as screened in more than 200 countries around the world.
