Four oarsmen from this year’s Cambridge Blue Boat will be representing Great Britain at the rowing World Cup in Poznan, Poland next week.

The Cambridge University Boat Club four will be rowing in the Men’s Heavyweight Coxless Fours category as GB2.

Toby Garnett (Trinity College), Henry Pelly (St Edmund’s College), Pete Marsland (Clare Hall) and Tom Ransley (Hughes Hall) have been racing together in a four since competing in the Boat Race in March and have been showing impressive form.

They caught the eye of the GB selectors and coaching team after winning at the recent Metropolitan Regatta at Dorney Rowing Lake, Eton, by some distance.

Acting CUBC Chief Coach Rob Baker said: “All these guys have high potential for the future and are very much in the GB selectors’ sights for the 2012 London Olympics. Competing at the World Cup next week will be excellent exposure for them, rowing against the best crews in the world at the peak time in the Olympic cycle.”

GB1, the Men’s Four, will be Tom Lucy, Steve Williams, Peter Reed and Andy Triggs Hodge - the latter having recovered from the injury which forced him to miss the Lucerne world cup ten days ago.

Former CUBC President and Athens Olympian (2004) Tom James, originally selected in the bow seat of this top boat, is making a strong recovery from injury and is back in training.

"Tom James is doing well. He's almost there but we need to be careful and take each day at a time. Beijing is our ultimate aim", said GB Performance Director, David Tanner.

The season's final World Cup in Poznan will take place from June 20 to 22.
