Britain and Europe: what went wrong and will it ever come right will be explored by Lord Hannay, the former UK permanent representative to the European Community, at the Alcuin Lecture on Tuesday 5 March 2002.
Cambridge graduate, former Cabinet Minister and former Vice President of the European Commission, Sir Leon Brittan, set up the fund in 1999 to finance the Alcuin Lecture series. Its aim is to highlight the relationship between Britain and European institutions.
The University is looking forward to welcoming Lord Hannay because, as a former representative of the UK to the Europe Community, he is able to give an incisive, and perhaps controversial assessment of what has gone wrong with the UK-Europe relationship, who was responsible, and how we can do better.
Alcuin was an English scholar and theologian, friend and adviser of Charlemagne.
The Alcuin Lecture is at 5pm on Tuesday 5 March in the Senate House. Admission is free and everyone is welcome.
