Staff and students gathered at New Hall yesterday (Sunday 13 October 2002) to discuss childcare provision and other forms of support available to students with children.
Seventy-five years is a brief time-span in archaeological terms but it is a long life for an academic journal. So it is with some pride that the past and present editors of Antiquity are celebrating the 75th anniversary of a publication which has become one of the leading journals of archaeology.
Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, died on Saturday 30 March 2002 at the age of 101. The University of Cambridge's Vice Chancellor, Professor Sir Alec Broers, has paid tribute to her: "A dear friend of the University, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, will be sadly missed. Her contributions were much valued and we send our sincere condolences to her family".
There will be a Ceremony of Thanksgiving for the life of Anna Bidder, Co-founder, First President and Honorary Fellow of Lucy Cavendish College, on Saturday 24 November.
Professor Elizabeth Anscombe, who held the chair of philosophy at the University of Cambridge between 1970 and 1986, died on 5 January 2001. A memorial service will be held on the morning of Saturday 24 February at the Church of Our Lady and the English Martyrs, Hills Road, Cambridge.
